The mysterious disappearance of Jay Slater, the teenager who went missing while on a lads' holiday in Tenerife , has come to a tragic end as the preliminary post-mortem unravels some distressing details .

July 15 brought the grim discovery of 19-year-old Jay's body at Rural de Teno Park, not far from where he was last spotted, after an extensive search that lasted over four weeks. Authorities cautioned that figuring out how he died might not be swift, given the 'very deteriorated' condition of the remains found within a remote and steep gorge.

Back in Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, Jay's family is preparing to repatriate his body and arrange a moving farewell for their 'beautiful boy'. The full autopsy report is pending, leaving unanswered questions in a case that has deeply touched and grieved many across Britain .

Yet preliminary results offer a glimpse into the harrowing circumstances of Jays final moments spent alone in the wilds.

A preliminary post-mortem concludes the teen's death likely resulted from 'a fall or plunge from height', with confirmation coming from a Civil Guard spokesperson that Jay suffered multiple traumatic injuries. They declared: "The body of the man located yesterday has been identified of that as Jay Slater through fingerprint comparison and identification. The result of the preliminary autopsy points to the cause of death being a fall or plunge from height due to the broken bones he suffered."

Photos reveal the isolated gully with a precipitous descent to the base where Jay was discovered deceased, highlighting that rescuers needed ropes to access the area among thick brush and unpredictable weather hazards.

In a poignant revelation shared by Mail Online, the Slaters were discouraged from seeing Jay's remains in the mortuary; however, they've taken some 'very small comfort' knowing the budding brickie likely passed instantly.

After enduring the shock of this tragedy, Jay's kin may now have to wait up to a year for closure, as UK inquests could be delayed until Spanish authorities conclude their investigation prolonging an inquest on British soil due to the case's intricacy.

Meanwhile, Jay's friend Ayub Qassimwho returned him to their secluded Airbnb the evening before his vanishingtook to YouTube live to refute rumours swirling post-tragedy, which included hints that Jay felt frightened while in the remote Masca village. Ayub expressed to viewers: "I don't know why he was scared and he ain't here to answer that question. I don't want to say, people could be going through something in their own heads, who knows, do you know what I'm saying?"
