A tragic stabbing incident in Southport in the UK this morning has left one person dead, with unconfirmed reports suggesting the victim was a child. Over ten individuals, including both adults and children, have been hospitalized with serious injuries.

Alder Hey Children's Hospital is currently dealing with a major incident, following the tragic news .

The emergency department of the hospital issued a statement this afternoon describing the situation as "currently extremely busy", while police maintain a presence at Hart Street, the scene of the attack. Earlier today, it was reported that victims were rushed to various hospitals across Merseyside.

ITV's Paul Brand took to social media to report that some of the injured were taken to Alder Hey, with others transported to Aintree, Southport and Formby hospitals. According to an earlier report by The Liverpool Echo, one parent recounted their daughter's narrow escape from the attack, stating: "My daughter was in it and she was traumatized. She ran away and she's safe."

Social media users have expressed their shock at the events and extended their well-wishes to those affected. Southport MP Patrick Hurley also voiced his alarm over the incident in a statement on social media, formerly known as Twitter, saying: "I am deeply concerned by the reports coming from Merseyside Police about a major incident on Hart Street in Southport today."

"I am hoping for the best possible outcomes to the casualties affected. My thoughts go out to all those affected, their loved ones and to the entire community. The police have confirmed that an individual involved in the attack has now been detained. I am repeating the advice of the police to avoid the area whilst the police and ambulance teams support this incident.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper shared a similar statement on the platform, saying she is "deeply concerned" after at least eight patients were taken to hospital with stab injuries following a "major incident" in Southport.
