BMW is recalling more than 291,000 vehicles because of a defective cargo rail, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

BMW was one of a collection of carmakers announcing recalls. To see if your car has been recalled, check the NHTSA website.

    BMW cargo rail recall

BMW is recalling 291.112 vehicles because the attachment for the interior cargo rail may become damaged in a rear crash and result in the cargo rail detaching. Interior cargo rail detachment during a rear crash can increase the risk of injury.

The models included in the recall are:

    • 2018-2023 X3 sDrive30i
    • 2018-2023 X3 xDrive30i
    • 2018-2023 X3 M40i
    • 2018-2023 X3 M

Dealers will replace the rear cargo rail attachment bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Aug. 30. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

In addition, Chrysler is recalling 3,606 2019-2021 Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid Electric (PHEV) vehicles. The battery pack may cause a vehicle fire when parked, even with the ignition in the "Off" position.
