It hasn't just been a big weekend for Marvel – with Deadpool & Wolverine making box office history across its opening weekend – but also for indie studio NEON , whose horror sensation Longlegs has overtaken its Best Picture winner in box office figures.

Parasite , which hit theaters in 2019, has since been NEON's highest-grossing film at the domestic box office, earning $53.3 million. Longlegs has now crept up and snatched the crown as of this weekend, taking $58.6 million domestically since the film hit theaters a couple of weeks ago.

Internationally, however, Parasite still has Longlegs beat. Parasite was a hit overseas, landing an additional $208.7 million for a worldwide total of $262.1 million. Longlegs has made considerably less outside of the US at just $8.1 million for a global taking of $66.7 million.

Bong Joon Ho's Parasite may have slipped out of NEON's number-one spot, but it had legs beyond the box office, winning four of the six Oscars it was nominated for and currently sits at 33 on IMDb's Top 250 Movies list.

Longlegs awards fate is yet to be cemented, but as we head into the latter part of the year, it'll become clear whether Mr Downstairs will get his time in the sun. For now, it secures a place in NEON history with its $58.6 million.
