NOAA expects temperatures to be above normal in most Western states and Florida. The weather in Florida could feed warmer water and thus hurricanes. Florida storms could cost over $1 billion this year.

Except for the southern part of Texas, no areas are expected to have temperatures below normal.

    Major Drought

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the worst levels of drought include Idaho, which has “exceptional drought,” which means the risk of wildfire is likely above average. The other areas with “exceptional drought” levels are southern New Mexico and southwest Texas. Drought conditions in New Mexico were bad earlier this year. There is also “exceptional drought” in parts of Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.

Much of the northeast, Florida, the middle of the country, and California do not have any drought conditions.
