Toronto’s music scene was set abuzz on Thursday night (July 25), but took an unexpected twist when hometown hero Drake’s name was met with boos after being shouted out by rockers Limp Bizkit.

According to TMZ , the incident occurred during Limp Bizkit’s performance as part of the Loserville Tour, which features acts including RiFF RAFF, Bones + Eddy Baker, N8NOFACE, and Corey Feldman.

As the night unfolded, it became clear that not all fans were in the mood for surprises, as the mere mention of Drake’s presence in the venue by Limp Bizkit’s lead vocalist, Fred Durst, led to resounding boos from the crowd.

Durst, seemingly taken aback by the reaction, attempted to lighten the mood by quipping, “I thought Drake was your homie? What? No? Drake’s my homie.” Despite his efforts to diffuse the situation, the boos only grew louder, despite the hitmaker never physically appearing onstage during the performance.

In a move that both acknowledged and perhaps sought to pacify the restless crowd, Limp Bizkit dedicated their next song, “Take a Look Around,” to Drake. The gesture was intended to smooth over the tension, but it was clear that the audience were unmoved by Durst and the band’s seeming defense of Drake.

The most recent show of backlash against Drake is particularly jarring, being that it occurred in Toronto, the city he hails from and famously helped turn into a hotbed for Hip-Hop and emerging talent. The hitmaker, who has been relatively mum following his fiery back-and-forth with Kendrick Lamar, continues to feel the side effects of Lamar’s massive hit, “Not Like Us,” which is directly aimed at Drizzy and his October’s Very Own cohorts.

However, he appears to have reverted his focus from lyrical duels back to creating and collaborating with artists outside of Hip-Hop, as his guest appearances on rapper Gordo’s new singles “Sideways” and “Healing” have gained positive reviews from fans and critics alike.
