The 2024 Paris Olympics men's golf competition gets underway on Thursday from Le Golf National. The par-71, 7,174-yard course hosted the Ryder Cup in 2018, and this week it will host eight of the top 10 ranked golfers in the world. Recent major winners like Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler are part of the 2024 Olympics golf field for the U.S., with the former aiming for his second gold medal. Other top players include Ireland's Rory McIlroy, Sweden' Ludvig Aberg and Norway's Viktor Hovland.
Scheffler is making his first Olympics golf appearance but is the +300 favorite to win gold, according to the latest 2024 Olympics golf men's odds. Schauffele is at +525 to become the first-ever two-time Olympic golf gold medalist. This was McIlroy's first missed cut of the 2024 PGA Tour season, but the last time he missed a cut back in 2023, he then struggled again in his ensuing event, placing 47th.
McIlroy was tied for third place after 72 holes at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics golf tournament, pushing him into a seven-golfer playoff for the bronze. However, the struggles he's had down the stretch at major tournaments were also present at that Olympics as he was eliminated on the third hole of the sudden-death playoff and missed out on a medal. Unfortunately for McIlroy, fading down the stretch of high-profile tournaments has been a recurring theme since his last major win a decade ago, so the model sees better options with 2024 Olympics golf bets. Another surprise: Alex Noren (Sweden), a +3500 longshot, makes a strong run at the gold medal. A winner of 11 worldwide tournaments, Noren has Olympic experience as he was in fourth place at the 2020 Games after two rounds of play before finishing 16th at 11-under par. He's someone who has shown a tendency to elevate his play at big events as he notched top 15 finishes at both the 2024 PGA Championship and this year's Open Championship. Noren has a much better chance to win than his long 2024 Olympics golf odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.
Noren also brings winning experience at Le Golf National into the Summer Olympics as his last tournament victory came at this very course. He claimed the 2018 Open de France, making him one of just three players in the Olympic field with an individual event victory at the course.
