Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb Lands Shocking Take From NFL Execs

Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb did not participate in any offseason workouts with the team this spring. He was not present at the start of training camp because he is seeking a new contract from the team.

Coming off the most productive season of his career, CeeDee Lamb is looking to become one of the highest-paid players in the NFL. His production last season certainly warrants a lucrative extension.

In 2023, he caught a league-high 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. All three statistics were career highs for the Oklahoma product.

He finished third in the Offensive Player of the Year voting while making the Pro Bowl team for the third straight year. His second All-Pro Team spot was earned, but this was the first time that he landed on the First Team.

CeeDee Lamb is looking to parlay that into a massive new contract. But, to this point, the Cowboys haven’t been willing to meet his astronomical asking price.

Rumors have swirled that he is looking for a deal that surpasses what Justin Jefferson agreed to with the Minnesota Vikings earlier this offseason. The Vikings made Jefferson the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, agreeing to a four-year, $140 million deal.

That $35 annual average is likely what Lamb and his representatives are looking to top. Alas, getting that number is going to prove difficult based on an update shared by Greg Cosell.

While making an appearance on the Ross Tucker Podcast , Cosell provided an update on how executives around the league view CeeDee Lamb and it will shock some people. He isn’t viewed by everyone as a top-five wide receiver in the NFL.

“He was not viewed as the same level as Jefferson, Adams, Chase, AJ Brown, & Tyreek Hill…is he that guy or is he not?” Cosell said during the podcast appearance.

That is certainly a hot take. But, it does explain why the Cowboys have been hesitant to just give CeeDee Lamb and his representatives a blank check.

All it takes is one team to view Lamb as a player of that caliber and he will receive the price tag he is looking for. Right now, Dallas doesn’t believe that offer exists, which could be why they are taking things slow.

The Lamb extension isn’t the only one they have to worry about, either. Quarterback Dak Prescott is also in need of a new deal and next offseason extension talks will begin with star edge rusher Micah Parsons.

Ideally, the Cowboys would keep all three in the mix. But it will be difficult paying each of them, as they seek record-setting contract numbers, in addition to fielding a competitive team.
