Dachshund's Funny Reaction to Dad Building Her a Custom Ramp Is Priceless

When it comes to accessibility, not all houses are created equal — not for the humans who live there, and not for the dogs who live there and might need a little extra help, too. Whether your canine friend has tiny legs, is getting up there in years, or is suffering from a health condition, some dogs have a particularly tough time climbing stairs and making big jumps, like from the floor to the bed or the couch. Fortunately, indoor pet stairs exist to help solve the bed problem, but what about getting up the stairs to your front porch outside?

One dog took matters into his own hands and built a ramp for his dog who needed one, and she had the bet reaction to his sweet gesture.

On Thursday, June 25, @winnietduhweinerdog shared a video of the ramp building process so that their Dachshund pup , Winnie, could get up and down from the porch by herself. The end product is pretty impressive — the ramp is just her size, and it has sides, so she won't go toppling off. They called it "janky" in their caption, but it looks fine to me. Plus, it was clearly made with so much love.

Winnie can tell, too, because she practically galloped over to that ramp, tail wagging, and she certainly seems to love it, judging by her first few test runs.

Unfortunately, their dog is suffering from intervertebral disc disease, so it can be hard for her to climb. Hopefully, this ramp will be able to save her a lot of pain and struggle that she may have faced if she had to take the stairs.

The funny part of the video, though? Their German Shepherd kept using the ramp, too, even though she wasn't their intended audience. I guess it's helpful for everyone.

Commenters applauded them for being such great dog parents. One person wrote, "That’s really gonna help out her back!!! Great job!!! Good puppy parents!"

    What Is Intervertebral Disc Disease?

The condition that Winnie is suffering from, intervertebral disc disease (or IDD), is a degenerative disease in dogs that can cause terrible back pain (hence the ramp).

According to Cornell, IDD can happen when the discs in a dog's spine calcify with age (or when the discs rupture following an injury), making it hard for them to bend. If you suspect this may be going on with your dog, it's important to get them to the vet ASAP — the sooner treatment starts, the better.

Medications and modification to activities is where treatment usually starts, but some dogs will need surgery.

Hopefully, this ramp will go a long way in helping Winnie's symptoms. She deserves the world!
