Germany’s women’s gymnastics team , whose full-body leotards went viral at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics , have updated their designs for the 2024 Paris Games .

German sportswear brand Erima created the uniforms, incorporating the colors of the country’s flag: red, black and gold. The two full-body designs were modeled by athletes Sarah Voss and Pauline Schäfer-Betz on Sunday during the gymnastics all-around qualification tournament.

Both options are adorned with crystal embellishments and include panels of metallic fabric.

Erima also designed the team’s unitards in Tokyo, which caught the attention of fans worldwide given their full-coverage silhouettes. At many modern tournaments, women gymnasts typically wear leotards that bear the entire leg. Men, on the other hand, have long worn pants during competition.

“We wanted to show that every woman, everybody, should decide what to wear,” German gymnast Elisabeth Seitz told The Washington Post at the time.

Voss explained that she and her teammates were the ones advocating for more modest uniform options.

“We girls had a big influence on this,” she added. “The coaches were also very much into it. They said they want us to feel the most confident and comfortable in any case.”

According to the German Gymnastics Association, this was a conscious effort to protest sexualization of athletes in the sport.

“We had a lot of positive comments afterward,” Schäfer-Betz told Reuters of the response to the uniforms. “The main part for us was that we are comfortable in these. I really like to do gymnastics in long sleeves so you can put a lot of sparkle on the leg as well.”

In April, Nike came under fire for their Paris 2024 women’s track and field uniform designs, with some athletes decrying their revealing cuts.

U.S. hurdler and 2008 Olympian Queen Harrison Claye mocked the uniforms by tagging European Wax Center in the comments, asking “Would you like to sponsor Team USA for the upcoming Olympic Games?”

Coach and retired track star Lauren Fleshman, who won five NCAA championships and two pro-national championships, called the revealing garb “a costume born of patriarchal forces that are no longer welcome or needed to get eyes on women’s sports” in an Instagram post.

“Stop making it harder for half the population,” Fleshman continued.
