HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) says a contractor for the Department of Military Affairs will be working at the 11.33 mile point of KY 70 in Muhlenberg County late this week and early next week to begin removing debris from the abandoned Peabody Coal railroad bridge that was demolished by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in June.

Officials say motorists should anticipate lane restrictions and flaggers near this point beginning with the placement of traffic control signs on August 1, with cleanup efforts to begin on August 2. The estimated completion date is August 6. A one lane road should be expected at this location for the duration of the cleanup project.

The KYTC says the bridge, built in 1962 and long abandoned, was damaged in a recent crash, forcing KYTC to expedite demolition of the structure in order to keep KY 70 open.  The property adjacent to the roadway, including the bridge and railroad, belongs to the U.S. Military, which is handling removal of the debris.
