Fans Call For NBA To Make Major Change After Learning Of FIBA Rule At Olympics

An entire legion of NBA fans is getting a crash course in international play at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

As group play gets underway in France, it's not the shorter three-point line, elimination of defensive three seconds or lax basket interference rules that have many viewers suddenly infatuated with the FIBA game.

What's the international rule difference that has people most excited? How statisticians qualify an assist.

FIBA's manual for game bookkeepers states if "the player who receives the pass is fouled in the act of shooting and makes at least one free-throw, an assist is awarded in the same way as for a FGM."

After Courtside Buzz alerted followers to the rule difference on Instagram, many expressed a desire for the NBA to follow FIBA's lead.

"That’s how the nba should do it," wrote devo_dinero.

"Most fiba rules should be put in the NBA," said m.4rquis.

"Been said it makes since [sic] a pass led into a shooting foul credit the assist," added _donnie_bravo.

"Yes. They should adopt this. It's still a bucket that was made due to receiving the pass in the first place," kingcaine718 replied.

Don't be surprised if more and more American fans long for FIBA rules to be implemented in the NBA as they follow Team USA's quest for Olympic gold.
