    Founder of Walters' Fruit Ranch, legendary running coach dies at 93

    GREEN BLUFF, Wash. -- The former owner of Walters' Fruit Ranch Tracy Walters has passed away at the age of 93.

    According to a Facebook post by the orchard, Walters died Saturday, July 27.

    Walters and his wife not only ran the farm at Greenbluff, Tracy was also a legendary running coach and a huge part of the legacy of distance running in the Inland Northwest.

    Walters ran at North Central High School and Eastern Washington University before coaching at Rogers High School.

    He twice coached U.S. national teams and helped train Spokane legend Don Kardong for the 1976 Olympics.

    Walters and his wife Leta owned and operated Walters Fruit Ranch and also ran Camp Reed from 1968-1972.

    Camp Reed paid tribute to Walters on Facebook Sunday, calling him the "father of Camp Reed."
