Matt Damon has been married to Luciana Barroso for almost twenty years, and he wants to keep it that way. Even though A-list relationships can be challenging , the 53-year-old star is reportedly determined not to follow in Boston BFF Ben Affleck’s footsteps.

The Bourne Identity star has witnessed firsthand how difficult it is for Affleck to weather through his high-profile breakups with Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lopez. “He sees how lonely Ben is, the pain he goes through when he has these break-ups, the cost of it, to his mental stability as well as his bank balance,” an insider told Life & Style. That doesn’t mean Damon’s marriage to Barroso is perfect — they’ve gone through their own troubles, but have come out stronger in the end.

“Matt and Luciana did go through a tough time in their marriage, mainly it was because he was working so much, but they’ve turned things around,” the source added. Now that their marriage is on the right track, Damon has “vowed never to slip up and lose her.” He raved about his wife during the Oppenheimer press tour when he talked about a dark time in his life while working on an unnamed film that he wasn’t enjoying.

“Halfway through production and you’ve still got months to go, and you’ve taken your family somewhere, and you’ve inconvenienced them,” he told the YouTube channel Jake’s Takes . “And I remember my wife pulling me up because I fell into a depression about, like, What have I done?” He revealed her simple response, “We’re here now.” Those three words snapped him out of his depression and kept him focused on the goal of making a great film.

“I do pride myself, in a large part because of her, at being a professional actor. And what being a professional actor means is you go, and you do the 15-hour day and give it absolutely everything, even in what you know is going to be a losing effort,” he added. “If you can do that with the best possible attitude, then you’re a pro, and she really helped me with that.”

With Damon on solid ground with Barroso, he’s now trying to be there for Affleck amid his separation from Lopez. “Matt tried to warn Ben when he got back together with J.Lo that this could happen,” a source told the Daily Mail. “Matt was there to help Ben get it together after their first split and he felt like this would happen again.” Maybe now it’s time for Affleck to listen to Damon’s life — and love — advice because that’s what friends are for.
