The Team USA women's 5v5 team begins its 2024 Paris Olympics with a matchup against Japan at 3 p.m. ET on Monday.

The United States' 12-woman roster features some elite WNBA talent. But, Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark is not among that star-studded list.

Team USA's decision to leave Clark at home sparked heavy controversy around the basketball world. And with the team's Olympic opener quickly approaching, Clark's name is all over social media before tipoff.

Dawn Staley, a member of the Team USA selection committee, admitted that leaving Clark off the roster may have been a mistake during an interview with NBC Sports on Sunday.

“If we had to do it all over again, the way that she’s playing, she would be in really high consideration of making the team because she is playing head and shoulders above a lot of people," Staley said.

Clark and the Fever will resume their 2024 WNBA season with a matchup against the Phoenix Mercury on August 16.
