SCRANTON – A Shenandoah woman was among nearly 70 members of the University of Scranton’s most recent graduating class who participated in the Donning of the Stole ceremony.

Kayla Perrong, of Shenandoah, participated in the ceremony which the school says celebrates and honors the accomplishments of members of its graduating class from underrepresented identities who received their undergraduate degrees.

A student-led initiative, it highlights students’ success in overcoming particular barriers and obstacles faced by students from such groups.

Perrong, a dean’s list student at Scranton, earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry this year.

She was a percussion instructor for the Shenandoah Valley Jr./Sr. High School Marching Band and a volunteer firefighter for the Rescue Hook and Ladder Fire Co.

At Scranton, she was a member of the the Health Professions Organization, performed with the Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Steel Pans Drum Band. She also was social media chair for the Italian Society and an Ambassador for the Office of Equity and Diversity.
