There are so many incredible songs out there that channel the unique energy and emotion of female rage. This list is as far from exhaustive as you can get; we might just have to spin up a second one to fit in some very honorable mentions. Let’s dive into four heart-pumping songs about female rage!

    1. “Ptolemaea” by Ethel Cain

This is probably the most popular and well-known song about female rage circling the internet today. “Prolemaea” comes from Ethel Cain’s 2022 debut album Preacher’s Daughter. For those not in the know, the album as a whole follows the story of a young woman who runs away from her religious household, falls in love, and is murdered and eaten by a cannibalistic serial killer. It’s an extremely atmospheric song with a climax that will never leave you.

“I was immediately like, ‘That’s how it feels,’” Ethel Cain said of the song. “When someone invites you in, brings you into their life, just to hurt you. I was scared of the demo the next day when I listened to it.”

    2. “A Psychopath” by Lisa Germano

This track by Lisa Germano is quite a haunting one, especially when it comes to the song’s lyrics. “I hear a scream / I see me scream / Is it from memory? / Am I awake? / Am I alone?” The actual audio from a 911 call of a woman being attacked by a home intruder accompanies Germano’s powerful, atmospheric voice.

    3. “Face Up And Sing” by Ani DiFranco

This Ani DiFranco classic from 1994 is one of her very best, and it was also completely produced and released by DiFranco herself. One could say she was a notable voice for women in music in the 1990s, as she had no qualms with singing about things that were considered taboo at the time.

    4. “I’m Not Gonna Kill You” by Nemahsis

This may be a list of heart-pumping songs about female rage, but what makes this song by Nemahsis so incredible is how soft-sounding it is despite its subject matter. Few can sing about rage, prejudice, racism, and Islamophobia in a single ballad quite like Nemahsis did with “I’m Not Gonna Kill You”. The accompanying music video for this song is similarly powerful.
