    New members added to Superintendent’s Student Cabinet

    NORTH DAKOTA ( KXNET ) — The latest members of the Superintendent’s Student Cabinet were announced on Monday.

    Kirsten Baesler, the North Dakota School Superintendent, chose 25 kids who will offer their advice and suggestions for improving education.

    The new members are in grades three through 12 during the 2024-2025 school year and represent public and private schools across the state.

    “The Superintendent’s Student Cabinet is invaluable in helping me to keep in touch with what’s going on in our classrooms across the state,” said Baesler. “Students don’t hesitate to tell me what’s going well in our schools, and where they believe improvements can be made. They have influenced North Dakota’s public education policy in many ways, including anti0bullying legislation, early childhood experiences, mental health awareness, personalized learning, and encouraging greater availability of advanced academic instruction.”

    Baesler adds that she wants to emphasize that members decide what’s important for them. They set the agenda, and control how it operates.

    • Miles Rerick in third grade at Eastwood Elementary School in West Fargo
    • Benjamin Drohan in fourth grade at Edison Elementary School in Minot
    • Eliza Own in fourth grade at Naughton Elementary School in Bismarck
    • Eshaan Kathawala in fifth grade at Elk Ridge Elementary School in Bismarck
    • Bianca Sagness in fifth grade at Kenmare Public School in Kenmare
    • Hadley Matthys in sixth grade at Northern Cass in Hunter
    • Evelyn Meisel in sixth grade at The Innovation School in Bismarck
    • Alice Brooks in seventh grade at Capstone Classical Academy in Fargo
    • Heidi Olsen in seventh grade at Central Cass in Casselton
    • Addyson Rademacher-Nyame in seventh grade at Mandan Middle School in Mandan
    • Logan Engelstad in eighth grade at Cheney Middle School in West Fargo

    “The Superintendent’s Studeny Cabinet offers a tremendous opportunity for young men and women to develop their abilities in leadership, decision-making, priority setting, public speaking, and team building,” said Baesler. “They are on track to become leaders wherever they choose to go.”

    The group’s service starts on August 1, 2024, and ends in July 2026. Its first meeting will take place on September 30.
