Kevin Durant Claps Back At 'So Smart' NBA Fans Amid Olympic Run

    By Jack Winter,

So much for Kevin Durant needing time to re-acclimate from his calf injury.

Team USA's all-time leading scorer lived up to that billing in the Americans' Olympic debut on Sunday, pouring in 21 first-half points while leading them to a convincing 110-86 victory over Nikola Jokic and Serbia.

Next up for the United States in France? A Group C tilt on Wednesday with South Sudan, the same side that nearly pulled off a historic upset win over Team USA barely more than a week ago.

Biding his time between games, Durant took to Twitter on Monday, pointedly responding to fans who have come to the conclusion the FIBA style of play is superior to the NBA's.

Durant's points stand whether you prefer the FIBA game or otherwise.

The notion that NBA teams don't run set plays is just as misguided as the assumption that all international squads rely solely on offensive organization from the sideline. Basketball is at its best when the game is free-flowing, with offensive concepts built mostly on principles rather than specific playcalls on every possession.

While FIBA play is certainly more physical than the NBA, the international game is hardly without flopping. The difference American fans may be noticing in the Olympics is the officials' reaction to that embellishment of contact, not that it doesn't exist at all.

Durant, a three-time Olympic gold medalist, is poised to finish his USA Basketball career as the most decorated men's player in national team history. Next time he chimes in on comparisons of FIBA to the NBA, most fans would certainly be better served letting Durant educate them than argue with him.
