Golden Retriever Goes After 'Invader' in the Pool Like a Regular Neighborhood Watchman

All dogs have personalities of their own, but some can be very territorial... over their food, over their humans and over their homes. If you have a pup who barks anytime someone even walks by your house from a distance like I do, you already know what I'm talking about. Some simply aren't messing around when it comes to protecting what they believe to be theirs, and this can lead to some pretty hilarious situations.

For example: The dog in this TikTok video, who saw an intruder in his backyard pool and made it clear as day that he was not about to stand for it. This is one brave pup!

On Sunday, July 28, @honeybearhenry shared this video of their Golden Retriever discovering that someone was in his pool that he did not authorize to be there. One minute, he was relaxing on the stairs, and another, he was running to the pool in full guard dog mode, barking his little heart out.

So what was he so upset about? Oh, just an oversized rubber duck floating in the pool. Obviously not a cause for concern for us, but to Henry, it was an emergency, and he wasted no time jumping into the water to fetch the duck and remove it from the pool. Good boy, Henry! Keeping everyone safe!

This is not the first time that Henry has gone after a duck in the pool like this. Their rivalry began when he was just a puppy , when he fearlessly (okay, not so fearlessly) went after a smaller duck floating nearby while he was relaxing on his pool float.

It's a good thing Henry is around, because what would his family do without him?

    Golden Retrievers & Water

It's no wonder that Henry is so willing to jump in the water. Not only is he defending his turf, but he is fortunately part of a breed that tends to love being in the water in general, which likely made his mission all the more enjoyable.

As one site dedicated to the breed points out, Golden Retrievers naturally have a love of being active , and in the past, would retrieve water fowl that had been shot by hunters — which is kind of what Henry is doing in this video (but way less morbid).

Their coats are also water repellant, making it even more convenient for them to jump into a pool or a lake and feel comfortable.

Of course, like I mentioned before, all dogs have their own personalities, so some Golden Retrievers are going to be bigger fans of the water than others. But clearly, Henry doesn't mind one bit!
