SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — In the last week, nearly 90 new wildfires sparked in Utah, and officials say a considerable chunk of them were human-caused.

According to Utah Fire Info , 88 new fires have kicked up in the Beehive State since July 21. About 44% of them were determined to be caused by people.

Among the newest fires are the Murdock Hollow Fire , which started Monday in Summit County, threatening structures near Kamas. Over the weekend, the Kolob Fire in Washington County doubled in size, expanding to cover 600 acres.

Currently, much of Utah is under a red flag warning until Tuesday night, as hot and windy weather could whip up any new fires that start amid tinder-dry vegetation.

Fire officials are urging Utahns to be careful and follow fire restrictions. So far this year, there have been 680 wildfires across the Beehive State, and 470 (or 69%) of them have been human-caused.
