Convicted Murderer Scott Peterson Speaks Out For The First Time Since 2004 Sentencing In New Peacock Series ‘Face To Face’

True crime fans will have a new series to turn to next month. Face to Face with Scott Peterson is a new docuseries releasing on Peacock next month, which is focused on Peterson’s murder case from 2003. The convicted felon will appear on camera in exclusive interviews from his California State Prison cell as he talks about the case.

While Peterson was convicted, there are many who disagree on whether or not justice was actually served. Recently, as the trailer teases, the Los Angeles Innocence Project has taken on Peterson’s case, causing a wave of renewed interest.

Peterson was originally facing the death sentence, but as of a 2021 resentence is currently serving a life sentence without parole, according to CBS News . He was convicted of the murder of his wife Laci and unborn son Conner. The docuseries will cover the case in three parts.

Interviews featured in the show will include Peterson’s sister-in-law Janey, former Modesto Police Department lead detective Al Brocchini and detective Jon Buehler, Scott’s former defense attorney Lara Yeretsian, and former ABC News Producer Mike Gudgell, among others, according to a press release shared with DECIDER.

Per the release, “At 8 months pregnant, Laci Peterson went missing on Christmas Eve, 2002. As the investigation unfolded, her husband Scott was revealed to be a liar, a cheater, and ultimately a murderer. The world’s media hung on every moment of the trial, and Scott was convicted and sentenced to death.”

Peterson’s interview in the docuseries will mark the first time he is speaking on camera since his conviction in 2003.

The teaser features Scott’s face on a Zoom call from his prison, but viewers do not hear his voice. Director Shareen Anderson begins by speaking to Peterson and saying, “Thanks for talking with me today.”

“He didn’t want to be a dad, didn’t want to pay child support, didn’t want to pay spousal, and this is the way he thought about getting out of it,” Detective Buehler then says.

Viewers next hear Peterson’s sister-in-law Janey say, “I believe my brother-in-law Scott has been wrongfully convicted of that murder,” as she flips through photos from Scott’s wedding to Lacey. “He’s been in prison since April of 2003. Scott has not spoken on camera about the case in those 21 years.”

It will be up to viewers to try to decide for themselves if justice has been served once the series debuts. Face to Face With Scott Peterson premieres on Aug. 20 on Peacock. Watch the trailer in the video above.
