Could WWE Delay A Roman Reigns Return Beyond SummerSlam?

Everything seems to be lined up, but could WWE delay a Roman Reigns return beyond SummerSlam?

On one hand, it makes a ton of sense for a Roman Reigns return to happen this Saturday in Cleveland. Solo Sikoa and his new Bloodline have been destroying just about anyone they’ve wanted to. Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton and Kevin Owens have been laid out. The group has also kicked out and destroyed Jimmy Uso. And the exit of Paul Heyman stunned the world. All of this has led to fans chanting, louder and louder, “We Want Roman”.

But does a Roman Reigns return at SummerSlam make sense? Or is it too soon even? According to the Wrestling Observer and Dave Meltzer , an August return for Reigns does not make sense. Right now, the game plan gives us Reigns against Solo Sikoa and Cody Rhodes against The Rock for next year’s WrestleMania . If that is indeed still the plan, it probably doesn’t make as much sense to get Roman Reigns back this soon. Even with Reigns not working each and every week, it’s still a long time between August and April.

But, it is not impossible either.

We saw a similar play last year. Jimmy and Jey blew up at SummerSlam. Reports then indicated we would not get a brother versus brother match until Philly. It seemed crazy, but that is exactly how things played out. Though, the waiting did not give us a stupendous match. So while Meltzer may say a Reigns return in August makes no sense given the plans, it is not without precedent either.

I would argue it in a slightly different way. Jimmy Uso has been wronged, and we’ve not seen him back yet. Nor have we seen Heyman. Logic says a Paul Heyman return will trigger the Reigns face tour. And i would honestly not be shocked at all if we get Heyman back, but it takes Reigns a bit longer to come back. At this point, whenever we do see the Tribal Chief again, he will receive a massive baby face pop. Making fans wait, making this process take a bit longer? It will only make that pop be even more incredible.

I would not be shocked if we saw Reigns in Cleveland. But I’d also not be shocked if we didn’t see him there. Either way, the time between now and WrestleMania is likely less of an issue than the Observer thinks. Given a part time schedule and the heel nature to duck and dodge, it may take a few months-and matches with underlings-before Sikoa allows himself to deal with Reigns. But when that happens? Buckle up.
