NFL Analyst Makes Bold Prediction On Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has delivered on his rookie deal in the eyes of most fans. With the 2024 preseason mere days away, however, Lamb remains locked into a tense negotiation with Jerry Jones. The seven-month marathon might finally be nearing its conclusion, however.

At least, that is what one NFL analyst believes.

Speaking on “The Carton Show,” Craig Carton predicted that the Cowboys would only be without Lamb for one preseason game.

While speaking about the situation, Carton predicted a new deal for Lamb would be done “by the second week of August.”

Getting the extension done would mean a lot of things, including a round of exhalation from Cowboys fans. It would also mean the team could finally focus on other matters.

By that point, if Dak Prescott is not signed, all attention would seemingly be placed on him by Jones and the rest of the Cowboys’ fan base. Of course, if Lamb gets signed before Prescott, it might indicate something else going on.

Prescott-Lamb signing order gives clue to Cowboys QB’s fate

The Cowboys have dangled Prescott’s fate in front of him for as long as Lamb. With the two working on deals at the same time, the order of signing indicates several things. First, it indicates priorities. If Lamb gets signed first, it means that he was more important to Dallas than Prescott.

Prescott also could interpret that to be the case, even if Jones denies it. As such, he might then feel the need to close off negotiations with Jones, which could all but put his era with the Cowboys on a countdown clock. Once that switch is flipped, it can be impossible to switch it back.

Of course, that also could mean that he already has played his final full season. With a new era on the way, Prescott could be benched like Russell Wilson despite earning massive money this season. Jones might want to start his quarterback search in-house to see what he has. This could be especially likely if the Cowboys find themselves in a hole at any point this season.

Could Dak Prescott or Jones call it quits this season? If so, it might be the biggest takeaway from the 2024 campaign in the NFC.
