    WV Tax-Free day is coming up! Here’s what you should know

    CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — As the next school year continues to draw closer, Governor Justice announced the dates for the upcoming West Virginia Sales Tax Holiday.

    Save money on a variety of back-to-school items from August 2 through August 5, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Items covered within the sales tax event include clothing, notebooks, pencils, instructional materials, certain electronics (laptops and tablets) and certain sports equipment.

    Consumers can expect at least 6 percent savings on purchases overall, as well as a 7 percent savings if a local tax is regularly imposed.

    Back-to-school dates announced for southern West Virginia

    Throughout the tax holiday, exemptions apply to the following purchases:

    • Certain items of clothing that cost $125 or less
    • Particular school supplies that cost $50 or less
    • Certain instructional materials with a price of $20 or less
    • Specific laptops and tablets that cost $500 or less
    • Particular sporting equipment that costs $150 or less.
