Veteran film producer Spencer Ela has joined Miramax’s Motion Picture Group as a senior vp.

He most recently worked at The Safran Company as a vp under DC Studios co-chair Peter Safran and producer John Rickard.

Ela arrives at Miramax months after Jonathan Glickman became CEO of the film and TV studio, replacing former CEO Bill Block, who departed last year after a six-year run.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Spencer to our burgeoning Motion Picture Group. He will be an integral part of helping to build out a new and exciting slate of commercial, theatrical films for Miramax, and his love of storytelling and deep bench of filmmaker relationships are only matched by his work ethic and genuine good nature. Jon and I are beyond excited to have him on the team,” Becky Sloviter, president of the Motion Picture Group, said in a statement.

His credits at Safran included co-producing Amazon Studios’ action thriller Heads of State. The action comedy stars John Cena, Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra and Jack Quaid, and is directed by Ilya Naishuller ( Nobody ) off a script by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.

At Safran, Ela also oversaw the development and production of DC’s Blue Beetle, starring Cobra Kai breakout Xolo Maridueña and directed by Angel Manuel Soto from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

Ela earlier worked as a film exec at STXfilms, and began his career alongside manager/producer Richard Arlook, before moving to Untitled Entertainment.

“I am deeply honored and thrilled to join Jon, Becky and this exceptional team at Miramax. We have an incredible opportunity to continue the tradition of crafting iconic stories that inspire and enthrall audiences around the world,” Ela said in his own statement. “Under Becky’s leadership, I look forward to helping Miramax create commercially captivating narratives that will get people excited to grab some popcorn and enjoy the communal, cultural experience of going to the movies.”
