A FUMING shopper has called out the retailer online after buying a $50 gift card with no balance.

The shopper said Kroger ignored her complaint until she posted about the incident on X.

She purchased a $50 Sephora gift card from the retailer, but when her daughter tried to use it, the card had no balance.

"Do NOT buy gift cards from Kroger. It is a SCAM," she tweeted.

"I bought $50 Sephora gift card for my daughter for Christmas. She went to Sephora to spend her GC and it had a $0 balance! I have reported it, filed a claim with Kroger and NOTHING! They are thieves and liars," she continued.

The consumer said the company didn't address her concerns until she put them "on blast" using her social media presence.

"I had to have proof of the purchase through a receipt or my Kroger app and I had to give them the numbers off the card I purchased that was empty," she added.

Finally, the consumer was able to refund her purchase.

Kroger accepts returns of items purchased at any store location within a 30-day window of purchase, according to their website.

Shoppers returning with a receipt will be refunded to the same payment method that was used to make the purchase.

Shoppers without a receipt will receive a Kroger gift card, if the purchase is over $10.

The return slip must be signed by all customers with returns over $10.

The store promises that shoppers who are returning items under $10.00 will receive cash for their returns.

However, this isn't the first time Kroger has made customers jump through hoops for a refund.

In July, one shopper said they had to wait in line for 45 minutes to get a $10 refund after being overcharged for sale items.

"Regularly, my local Kroger advertises a sale price, charges full price at checkout, and assumes I won't check my receipt before I leave," they wrote on X.

Kroger shoppers can return items with or without a receipt.

All Kroger Co. Family of Stores can accept returns of items purchased at any location within 30 days of purchase.

    Returns with receipts:

    • Customers can use digital or paper receipts to get a refund
    • The refund will be returned in the same payment method the purchase was made. Either going back on a card or handed back in cash

    Returns without receipts:

The shopper said Kroger assumed they wouldn't wait in line at customer service to get back the $10 they were overcharged.

    "Not today, satan!" they wrote.

Some frustrated shoppers said they're going so far as to boycott the retailer and shop elsewhere.

Meanwhile, a Kroger shopper says she was overcharged by about five times the amount she was supposed to pay.

And another shopper has slammed the retailer after the wheels on their cart locked despite paying for their groceries.
