A Team GB rugby sevens player is being investigated by the British Olympic Association over an alleged racist message sent on WhatsApp.

A screengrab of a message allegedly sent by Amy Wilson-Hardy was posted to Instagram by a person saying it showed racism. A BOA spokesperson said: “The British Olympic Association has been made aware of an image published on a social media platform and is investigating the matter.”

Wilson-Hardy, who also represented Team GB in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, played for the British women’s team as they lost 17-7 to the US in Monday’s quarter-final fixture.

She has previously played 15-a-side rugby for her country, as well as for several women’s rugby Premiership clubs, including Wasps, Bristol Bears and Ealing Trailfinders.

Great Britain lost their quarter-final tie to the US after a series of handling errors, despite taking an early lead through an Ellie Boatman try.
