    2024 Olympics Day 3 Results: USA Men's Gymnastics Team Ends Medal Drought

    The U.S. Men's Gymnastics Team ending a 16-year Olympic medal drought headlined Day Three of the 2024 Paris Games on Monday (July 29).

    The Americans held off Great Britain and Ukraine to take bronze with a combined score of 257.793, trailing only Japan at 259.594 and China at 259.062. Pommel horse specialist Stephen Ndeoroscik closed out the U.S. men's rotation to earn a score of 14.866 and edging Great Britain's total score of 255.527 and Ukraine's 254.761.

    Brody Malone scored a 13.700 and Paul Juda finished with 13.900 on pommel horse to set up Ndeoroscik routine.

    Juda, Asher Hong and Frederick Richard all scored about 14.100 on the floor routine leading up to the pommel horse, holding a 1.8-point advantage over Ukraine at the time. The U.S. men's gymnastics team last medaled at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, taking bronze with a total score of 275.850, trailing only China (286.125) and Japan (278.875).

    The U.S. Women's Basketball Team kicked off Group C play with a 102-76 win against Japan. Veterans A'Ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart combined for 46 points, 21 rebounds and seven assists, with Wilson recording a game-best 24 points, 13 rebounds and four assists, while Stewart recorded 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Team USA's bench scored a combined 48 points with Brittney Griner , Sabrina Ionescu and Kelsey Plum all finishing with 11 points each.

    The Americans led Japan each quarter, which included a 52-37 advantage in the second half. Team USA also had a team field goal percentage of 54.5% and went 14 of 18 on free throw attempts, while Japan was limited to a 37.8% and went 5 of 6 on free throw attempts.

    Other notable results from Day 3 of the 2024 Paris Olympics are included below:

    • Women's Beach Volleyball: Taryn Kloth / Kristen Nuss (USA) defeat Taliqua Clancy / Mariafe Atracho del Solar (Australia) in prelims
    • Women's Indoor Volleyball: China defeats USA, 3-2, in opening game
    • Table Tennis: Lily Zhang (USA) advances to Round of 16
    • Swimming: Mollie O'Callaghan (Australia) sets Olympic record in 200-meter freestyle
    • Swimming: Summer McIntosh (Canada) wins 400-meter individual medley; USA's Katie Grimes and Emma Weyant take silver and bronze, respectively
    • Women's Rugby: Team USA defeats Great Britain, 17-7, to advance to medal round
    • Fencing Individual Foil: Nick Itkin (USA) defeats Kazuki Iimura (Japan), 15-12, to secure bronze medal

    Team USA currently leads all nations with 20 total medals, including three gold, which ranks sixth behind Japan (6), France (5), China (5), Australia (5) and South Korea (5).
