South Carolina Sales Tax Holiday, August 2nd-4th

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WJBF) – South Carolina’s annual Sales Tax Holiday starts Friday. It helps people save money when shopping for school supplies.

While students in Aiken County have already made their return to school, folks I spoke with say this upcoming weekend is beneficial.

“Every little bit helps, especially with people with kids and stuff. I’d hate to know I’d have to start brand new today with these prices like they are right now. It’s rough on these people, these young people– it’s got to be very rough on ‘em,” Rusty Stewart said.

But starting on Friday, August 2nd, those living in South Carolina will get some temporary relief on school-related items.

“That’s better than going up eight dollars,” Stewart said.

South Carolina’s annual Sales Tax Holiday gives people the chance to spend on selected items without having to also pay the state’s six percent sales tax.

“His dad is in college, and we just spent almost $200 dollars on him,” Samantha Clark said.

Samantha Clark tells me with costs rising, any discount is significant.

“The cost of everything is so high, what you bought two years ago is probably doubled now, so it’s really high. And I’m an accountant, so numbers is my thing so I really pay attention to stuff like that.”

You won’t have to pay tax on things like typical school supplies, computers and technology, clothing and more.

“Every little bit will help, any savings. From 100 dollars that would be what eight dollars, that’ll count up you know. It’s not that much but it’s big savings,” Stewart said.
