AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – Burger King often says, “have it your way.” But what Tiffany Floyd was handed last Friday was far from what she wanted.

With a newborn and 4-year-old in the car, Floyd stopped at Burger King on Millersport Highway for lunch around noon. After leaving with her drive-thru order, she handed the bag to her young daughter.

Floyd told WIVB News 4 in an exclusive interview that about five minutes after leaving the restaurant, her daughter complained about her burger having ketchup on it.

When Floyd turned around, she said she discovered a burger and wrapper covered in blood.

Though the Burger King is located in Erie County, Floyd first called her local Health Department in Niagara County. According to an initial report obtained by WIVB News 4, a Niagara County sanitarian called the manager of the fast-food restaurant to investigate.

That manager told the sanitarian that an employee, while wearing gloves, pinched his finger in the microwave door and didn’t realize he was bleeding so bad.

Floyd said her daughter was traumatized by the experience and has barley eaten anything since, fearing blood could be in her food.

“Someone has to be accounted for this, because this is not OK,” Floyd said. “Either they did not follow the proper steps after getting cut or anything, but this cannot happen again. You know, for my 4-year-old to experience this, it’s terrible.”

In a statement, Burger King said the incident was the result of a team member who injured his finger and immediately stepped away. The fast-food giant added that the Millersport location was closed over the weekend to re-train all employees and deep clean the restaurant.

In the meantime, Floyd said her focus is on her children as she weighs legal action.
