SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) – Happy Monday, Utah! High pressure to the southeast will keep dry weather over the state today with areas of critical fire weather in the southern half of the state.

Wind gusts of 25 to 30 miles per hour will be likely, creating pockets of critical fire weather. Humidity will also stay very dry in these regions.

With gusty winds remaining in these areas through Tuesday afternoon, red flag warnings will continue through 10 p.m. Tuesday. Daytime highs will be near seasonal averages today across the state.

A weak trough will pass through the northern Rockies on Tuesday and Wednesday, mainly affecting areas north of Utah with very little moisture. However, far northern Utah might see a few extra clouds and even an isolated shower or storm near the Idaho border on Tuesday afternoon.

The passing clouds and northerly flow will help keep temperatures near average through midweek along with gusty winds in southern Utah.

After the low-pressure system exits northeast, high pressure will quickly build over the Intermountain West, raising temperatures five to 10 degrees above normal from the end of the week into the weekend.

Initially, very dry air will dominate, but moisture will slowly increase in southern Utah, leading to isolated afternoon and evening storms, especially over the southern Utah terrain.
