    August promises the launch of some highly-anticipated television shows, including the return of many fan-favorites for second, third or fourth seasons. Emily in Paris Season 4 is even split into two parts as Netflix likes to do with popular series of late like Ozark, Stranger Things and Bridgerton Season 3.

    A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder , adapted from the book by Holly Jackson, will provide a binge-able murder mystery starting August 1, and Only Murders in the Building Season 3 will pick up that thread at the end of August.

    A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder

    Adapted from Holly Jackson’s best-selling novel of the same name, Wednesday star Emma Myers brings main character and protagonist Pip Fitz-Amobi to life for this six-part series that is already available to stream in the United Kingdom as it was commissioned by the BBC. Pip, a straight-A student who tends to stick to the rules, decides to investigate a previously closed case about Andie Bell (India Lillie Davies), a girl from Pip’s high school who was said to have been murdered by her boyfriend Sal Singh (Rahul Pattni). Pip, however, has always thought Sal was innocent, and she intends to prove it as part of her end-of-the-year project. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder starts streaming on Netflix on August 1.

    The fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy has been brewing , and viewers have the additions of David Cross, Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally to look forward to in addition to the chaos caused by the Hargreeves siblings’ timeline getting completely reset after the end of Season 3 at the Hotel Oblivion. A mysterious group called The Keepers also adds some layers to the mix. It all comes to an end for Victor (Elliot Page), Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castańeda), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus Hargreeves (Robert Sheehan), Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Ben Hargreeves (Justin H. Min) starting August 8.

    Max’s Industry centers a group of young bankers in the competitive environment of the international bank Pierpoint & Co’s London office. The grueling finance world echoes the setting of Succession a bit as Pierpoint wants to ethically invest in Lumi, a green tech energy company. The show, which began in 2020, stars Myha’la, Marisa Abela, Harry Lawtey, Ken Leung, Conor MacNeill, Sagar Radia, Indy Lewis, Adam Levy, Sarah Parish, Trevor White, Elena Saurel and Irfan Shamji. Plus, Kit Harington, Sarah Goldberg, Miriam Petche, Andrew Havill, Roger Barclay, Fady Elsayed, and Fiona Button. Kit Harrington ( Game of Thrones) will Season 3, which arrives August 11 on Max.

    From Sex and the City creator Darren Star comes the latest installment of Emily in Paris , another show that arrived in 2020. Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) has made quite a life for herself in Paris, where she originally went temporarily as a work-abroad sting. Now she has to make some tough decisions after Season 3 ended in a way that leaves an opening for her to be with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), but with complications . Part 1 of Season 4 of Emily in Paris arrives August 15 on Netflix, and it will consist of five episodes.

    Season 4 of Hulu’s cozy murder mystery Only Murders in the Building is afoot in August with a bicoastal installment of the comedy series. Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin) will venture to Los Angeles for an adaptation of their popular podcast into a film. Thus enter a whole crew of new stars including Eva Longoria, Molly Shannon, Eugene Levy, Kumail Nanjiani, Zack Galifianakis, Melissa McCarthy, Richard Kind and more. The latest whodunnit will begin to unfold on August 27 on Hulu.

    The second season of Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will introduce Sauron (Charlie Vickers) full throttle in addition to other beloved characters like Tom Bombadil as evil threatens to take hold of Middle Earth. Season 2 will be darker than the first season of Prime Video’s continuation of Tolkien’s world, based on parts of The Silmarillion . Fifteen more new actors will begin their recurring roles on the show August 29, when it premieres on Prime Video.
