Greg McElroy Says One SEC Team Will 'Ruin' Seasons In 2024

With so many changes occurring in college football, there is one in particular that teams across the country are thrilled about.

The College Football Playoff has expanded from just four teams to 12, with a path to the playoff as open as ever. In layman's terms, you win your conference, and you are automatically into the big dance, which wasn't always guaranteed in years past, as we saw this past season with Florida State.

There are also an additional eight spots up for grabs, which will allow for more access to programs that were otherwise excluded from the previous format.

However, with so much at stake, the new format may have only emphasized the importance of conference play. When talking about the SEC, ESPN's Greg McElroy highlighted that one team has a chance to "ruin" seasons of programs that think they will be fighting for a playoff spot.

Under new head coach Mike Elko, McElroy is confident that the Texas A&M Aggies can shock some people in 2024.

"What I like most about A&M is the schedule and the opportunities that are sitting there to fall in line with the quote spoiler role," said McElroy on ' Always College Football'." You got Notre Dame...we all know Notre Dame is a top 10 team in the country coming in well guess what they're on the road at A&M Week 1.

"You go to Florida that's a tricky game for sure. You host Missouri. A lot of people have Missouri in the top 10 in the preseason well they come to you. You host LSU. Some people think LSU's top 15, top 20 team maybe by that point by the time you play them maybe they're a little higher than that. You get a chance to host them. You go to Auburn it'll be a very tricky game going to Auburns always tough. Then you got the Texas Longhorns. Team that everybody has in the top 3...you get to host them in the return of the Texas A&M-Texas game at the end of the regular season."

With all of these marquee matchups, McElroy is confident that the Aggies can trap someone.

"So I love the role that A&M will play this year. They're the spoilers for sure. I think they can get eight wins. I think they can get to nine wins I think they can get to 10 but they're going to ruin a couple of teams season's along the way that is for sure."

If Elko can reach that 8-10 win threshold in year one, it would certainly be a great start to his tenure, and beating a rival along the way will only add to it.

he talks about notre dame. every year they are put in the top 10 and drop like a rock. it's almost if they pay the right people to get a spot but look at the track record for the past 15 to 20 years. it's a joke to c them put in the top year after year. just bet about anything that they could announce before season that the cheerleaders will be starting on defense and they would still be voted in the top teams. it's a total disgrace that anyone could be put to the top without deserving it. welcome to American football
