HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaiʻi Insurance Division published new data from insurers and carriers, revealing that over $2 billion has been paid in Maui wildfire claims.

As of June 30, more than 10,000 claims have been filed.

“Behind every claim is a person, a family member, a homeowner, or a business owner. The loss we suffered as a state is unimaginable, but the Hawaiʻi Insurance Division has been and will continue to support the people of Maui as they begin rebuilding.” Insurance Commissioner Gordon I. Ito said.

The majority of payouts were made for residential properties, followed by personal vehicles and commercial properties.
