The Oscars are looking for a new leading man.

Jimmy Kimmel — who has hosted the annual awards show four times, including the last two years — has turned down an offer to host next year’s ceremony on ABC, according to a report from Puck News . Comedian John Mulaney has also been approached to host next year, and he declined, per the report. (When reached by TVLine, ABC had no comment on the report.)

Kimmel is a natural fit for the Oscars, since his late-night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! also airs on ABC. He first hosted the Oscars in 2017 — the night of the infamous Moonlight / La La Land Best Picture mix-up —  and returned to host three more times, including the most recent one in March. But he reportedly informed ABC that he wouldn’t be returning to host next year’s ceremony, slated to air next March.

ABC then turned to Mulaney, who has a string of popular stand-up specials on Netflix and also hosted the Academy’s annual Governors Awards this past year. Mulaney “passed due to schedule,” though, after having committed to several other projects.

That leaves the Academy in search of a new host. In 2022 — the most recent non-Kimmel year — they went with the trio of Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall, and the three years before that were presented without a host at all. Prior to Kimmel, Chris Rock is the most recent solo host, having served as emcee in 2016. Other recent hosts include Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen DeGeneres and Seth MacFarlane.

Alright, showbiz experts: Who should host next year’s Oscars? Give us your best suggestions in the comments.
