Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor recently starred in the sports drama Mr & Mrs Mahi and won the viewers’ hearts. The movie follows the story of a cricket-loving couple. While Mahendra, aka Mahi, loses hope of making it to the national cricket team, he helps his talented wife, Mahima, aka Mahi, to pursue her dream. Directed by Sharan Sharma, the movie came out in theaters on May 31 and has now made its digital debut on the streaming giant Netflix.

Why does Mahendra decide to coach Mahima?

Mr & Mrs Mahi begins with the introduction of Mahendra Agrawal, aka Mahi, a budding cricketer who loses his chance to get selected for the state team of Rajasthan. While he begs his father for another chance, he forces him to join his local sports equipment shop. Despite devoting years to his father’s business, Mahendra fails to receive his father’s admiration and respect. He is also envious of his brother, who has become a successful TV actor.

Meanwhile, Mahendra’s family meets Mahima and her family to get the two married in an arranged setting. Mahima, aka Mahi, is a talented doctor who has always been interested in cricket. Furthermore, when the two get married and get to know each other, Mahendra learns how Mahima has impeccable cricket skills. She pushes him to try to pursue his dream once again, but due to his poor performance, he is advised to rather become a coach.

Greedy for fame, Mahendra looks for a job as a cricket coach but immediately gets rejected. As a result, he somehow convinces Mahima to drop her medical practice and pursue her dream to become a cricketer. After convincing Mahima, he becomes a dedicated coach and improves her skills. Their hard work brings them success when Mahima gets selected for the state team. However, the lighthearted story of Mr & Mrs Mahi intensifies at this moment when Mahima somehow outshines her husband and coach.

Does Mahima make it to Indian Women’s National Cricket Team?

Mahendra and Mahima begin to drift apart when the former feels his wife is outshining him. He believes that his hard work as a coach did not bring him any fame. His greed distances him from his wife, and he refuses to support her career in cricket. Mahendra uses several tactics to become popular but fails. When Mahima learns how he used her to become a star himself, she finds it hard to focus on her game.

When both their lives get shattered, Mahendra realizes his mistake after talking about it to his mother. He flies to Mahima to support her game and reconcile, but she refuses to do so. On the day of the tournament’s final, Mahima’s team struggles to face their opponent on the ground. When winning the game becomes her responsibility, Mahendra advises her to play wholeheartedly, and she succeeds. Mahima also forgives Mahendra when he asks her to do what she wants and not what others have advised her to do.

Mr & Mrs Mahi comes to an end when Mahima finally gets selected for the Indian Women’s National Cricket Team. In her first interview with the media, she gives the due credit to her husband and coach. Moreover, Mahendra resolves his issues with his father, and their bond improves.
