Erik ten Hag's Manchester United have been active in the off-season as they seek major improvements on last season's eighth-place Premier League finish, their worst-ever tally.

It's the first summer transfer window with Sir Jim Ratcliffe & Co. at the helm of football affairs, and United have already been making early moves. Joshua Zirkzee joined from Bologna for £34 million ($46m) with Leny Yoro also coming in from Lille for £52 million ($68m).

The Red Devils must now offload players before they can push forward with their summer transfer plans. Reports have indicated they are eager to strengthen their midfield and find a partner for their teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo.

Veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen's future remains uncertain after playing an increasingly fringe role last season.

Christian Eriksen could end up staying at Old Trafford beyond summer

The Danish international is in the final year of his contract and is not expected to extend his stay in England, but he may stay beyond the transfer deadline due to a lack of suitors and steep wage demands.

Speaking to Manchester Evening News , Eriksen said: "You want to play as much as possible. Obviously there is a time and a place and I am not getting younger but it doesn't feel like I’m not getting younger.

"Mentally, I am still the same but body-wise in terms of games and how we play, sometimes it is good to have a rest. But I think it’s the same for everyone. To be able to perform to 100 per cent you do sometimes need a rest. There was a lot of games with the Premier League and European games

"I have one year left, so for me, I am a United player and for the last year as well. And I haven’t been told leave or extension, so in that sense I have one year left on the contract and I feel good, my family is feeling good living in Manchester and United is a nice club."

The playmaker made 28 appearances across all competitions in the 2023/24 season, however, only 12 of those were starts in the Premier League, which has raised questions marks around his future.

Eriksen did start to work on gaining his coaching badges last month as he prepares for life after football, but he's parked that to one side for now as he targets a successful final few years of a wonderful career.
