    3x3 basketball Olympic games schedule: When Team USA hits the court in Paris

    The 2024 Paris Olympic Games sees the return of 3x3 basketball following its debut in the Tokyo Olympics . The men's and women's brackets feature eight nations each, with Team USA represented in both tournaments for the the first time.

    Team USA took home gold in women's 3x3 basketball in the last Summer Games and return with an all-new lineup. The men's 3x3 basketball team is making its Olympic debut this year behind former college basketball star Jimmer Fredette.

    International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 basketball rules are used for the Olympics:

    • Teams: Two teams of three players with one substitute
    • Court: Half of a FIBA-regulation basketball court
    • Scoring: One point inside the arc, two points beyond the arc
    • Game length: 10 minutes or the first team to score 21 points
    • Shot clock: 12 seconds

    Here's each stage of the tournament:

    • Pool play: All teams play each other once
    • Play-in games: Top two teams advance to semifinals while the No. 3 through No. 6 teams will face off in play-in games. No. 3 will play No. 6 and No. 4 will take on No. 5.
    • Semifinals: Play-in game winners take on the No. 1 and No. 2 teams.
    • Bronze medal game: Semifinal losers
    • Gold medal game: Semifinal winners

    Friday, August 2

    • Women: U.S. vs. France, 7 a.m.; U.S. vs. Canada, noon
