Taylor Swift has spoken out after two children were killed and six left in critical condition following a horrifying stabbing at a dance party on Monday.

In a statement shared on her Instagram Story , the singer said: "The horror of yesterday's attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I'm just completely in shock. The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders.

"These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families." The knife attack took place close to a Taylor Swift-themed yoga class in Southport, England.

Merseyside Police confirmed on Monday that a 17-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder following the “major incident” at a property in Hart Street, Southport, Merseyside, at about 11.50am local time on the day of the attack.

Investigators investigators have disclosed few details about the teenager. However, they have said he was born in Cardiff and that he traveled to the dance class venue from Banks, Lancashire.

Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy described it as a "ferocious" attack and said two adults are also in a critical condition. In a statement, Ms Kennedy said the children are understood to have been "attending a Taylor Swift event at a dance school when the offender armed with a knife walked into the premises and started to attack the children inside."

She said police believe the adults were injured while "bravely" trying to protect the children. A 17-year-old boy was arrested and is set to be questioned following the "major incident".

Leanne Lucas, the manager of Enlighten with Leanne where the attack took place, and her co-organizer are believed to have saved 16 children attending the class of 25 youngsters, aged between six and 11. Leanne is currently fighting for her life after being injured in the knife attack.

She was rushed to hospital after trying to protect the children. Leanne had reportedly planned the two-hour Taylor Swift session to coincide with the school holidays. She suffered stab wounds after the knifeman entered the building on Hart Street through a door that was propped open due to the heat.
