The U.S. women won team gold at the 2012 London Games and the 2016 Rio Games. The Americans were favored to win a third consecutive team gold in Tokyo in 2021, but they earned a silver medal after Biles withdrew early from the team event due to "the twisties."

Will Simone Biles compete in the women's team final?
Yes. Simone Biles is set to participate in the women's team final, alongside Team USA's Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and 16-year-old Hezly Rivera, the youngest member of the entire Team USA delegation.
Biles, Lee, Chiles and Carey all competed at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where they earned a silver team medal. Team USA will begin the team final on vault on Tuesday.
During the team final, three competitors from each country will compete on each event — vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor. All three scores will count toward the team final, meaning no score is dropped. (In the qualification round, four gymnasts from each team competed in each event with one score being dropped.)
Who is competing in the women's team final?
