Sunshine and hazy skies on the way

Tuesday's Weather Headline: Saharan dust enters the picture today with high humidity sticking around. The tropics are also still being monitored. Read on for more details.
What we're tracking: Sinking high pressure continues over Texas today but grows in size later this week bringing a heat wave to much of the country. This high pressure is responsible for clearing our skies starting later today through the rest of this week. Plentiful sunshine will be around this week, but with heavy rainfall totals between 3-13 inches received last week, abundant water will still be in the soil providing very humid afternoons. Heat indices yesterday reached up to 108-110 in some areas with temps only in the low 90s. This will continue the next few days until the rainwater is mostly removed from the ground. A large plume of Saharan dust enters the state today with the heaviest dust sticking around on Wednesday and Thursday. Skies will be hazy and air quality will likely diminish to become unhealthy. Dust pushes off before the weekend with even more sunshine expected. However, an upper level trough entering the Great Lakes region on Friday will bring an upper level front into Texas that could spawn a few spotty showers by Sunday or Monday. Updates to this article on the tropics will release in the next couple hours. Alert Days: NONE.
Next 24 hours: Spotty showers will be a slight possibility for some today. Chances/coverage remains at 10% today, but drops to 0% tomorrow. The best chance to see spotty light showers will be in the late morning and early afternoon. Partly cloudy skies forming this morning will begin dwindling down to mostly sunny skies in the mid-late afternoon with partly cloudy skies forming again overnight. Clouds mostly clear tomorrow with abundant sunshine forecast. Highs in the upper 80s to low 90s throughout the Crossroads today bumping up to low-mid 90s tomorrow. However, dew points in the upper 70s near 80 during midday will bring heat indices as high as 107-109 for some, so stay safe in the hot humidity. Winds slowly start picking up the next 24 hours. Gusts today up to 20 mph SSE increasing to 25 mph tomorrow.
Extended forecast: Highs continue in the 90s for the rest of the week, but with no fronts or good rain chances in sight, highs will continue to inch ever closer to the 100s as high pressure persists too. Hazy skies will be around today through Thursday night, but clearing by Friday. It should be a great weekend to get in the pool or go to the beach, but with a potential tropical system close to the Gulf, rip current risk will likely be very high this weekend.
