A round of strong storms passed through Southwest Ohio late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, causing tornado warnings in several communities.

Now, the National Weather Service is looking into storm damage.

    Here's what to know.

    Strong thunderstorms bring tornado warnings

Here's where tornado warnings were issued in Ohio early Tuesday morning, according to the NWS Tornado X (formerly Twitter) account, an official account of the National Weather Service.

    • Cuba Township, Clinton County
    • The Village of Martinsville, Clinton County
    • The Village of Midland, Clinton County
    • The Village of New Vienna, Clinton County

National Weather Service reviewing damage reports

The NWS office in Wilmington, which covers Southwest Ohio, announced Tuesday morning that it is reviewing damage reports from the storms to see if additional surveys are needed, to determine if any tornadoes touched down. No definitive plans were announced.

According to the NWS, areas of interest are damage in Franklin County, Indiana and Warren and Clinton counties in Ohio.

What’s the difference between a tornado watch and tornado warning?

There are six categories to classify the rotational speed of tornadoes (EF0-EF5), but just two levels to warn of tornado activity.

A tornado watch means weather conditions could spawn tornadoes within the watch area. People should stay aware of weather conditions and be prepared to act if watchers spot a tornado.

A tornado warning means a tornado has been sighted by a local NWS forecast office or indicated by weather radar and there is imminent danger to life and property.
