The British Olympic Association is conducting an inquiry following reports that rugby sevens ace Amy Wilson-Hardy is implicated in a racist incident revealed through a WhatsApp message .

A WhatsApp chat, purportedly including Wilson-Hardy and another individual, has surfaced on social media during the 2024 Olympics.

The conversation contains an image that seems to show the athlete donning what resembles a black-face mask, alongside an offensive message .

"Genuine chocolate face," is the response from the unidentified person. Following this, a comment reads "Thought I'd have a better chance with the blacks," allegedly sent by Wilson-Hardy.

An anonymous user uploaded a screenshot of the exchange on Instagram. "The British Olympic Association has been made aware of an image published on a social media platform and is investigating the matter," stated a spokesperson for the British Olympic Association to Mirror Sport.

At 32, Wilson-Hardy is competing with Team GB's rugby sevens at the Paris Olympic Games and was also in the squad for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Team GB advanced to the women's tournament quarter-finals in Paris after securing two victories and one loss in their group stage. They triumphed over Ireland and South Africa but were defeated by Australia.

Wilson-Hardy played in all three matches. Their clash with South Africa ended in a 26-17 win for Team GB, cementing their second-place position in the group.

Team GB secured fourth place in the women's rugby sevens at the Rio Olympics, and repeated this feat in 2020, a tournament that saw Wilson-Hardy miss out on squad selection.

The men's team also ended up in fourth place in Tokyo, after bagging a silver medal in Rio. However, there will be no British men's team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, following a loss to South Africa in the final Olympic qualifier in June.

In their quarter-final match in Paris on Monday night, Team GB's women faced off against Team USA. Despite all four quarter-finals happening on the same night, the British side suffered a 17-7 defeat against the Americans.

The semi-finals are set for Tuesday, with the final and the bronze medal match scheduled for later the same day.
