Simone Biles is expected to help the USA dominate in women's gymnastics at the 2024 Olympics.

Rebeca Andrade is hoping she can do the same and potentially lead Brazil to some key upset victories.

Andrade established herself as one of the best gymnasts in the world at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. She took home the all-around silver at the event while earning gold on the vault with Biles out of action due to the twisties .

Since then, Andrade has continued improving and has consistently contended for medals at the World Championships. And once again, she has emerged as a medal contender at the Olympics after a strong qualifying run in Paris.

Who is Rebeca Andrade?

Andrade is a Brazilian gymnast who rose to prominence at the 2021 Olympics. She finished second in the all-around competition and won gold on the vault after earning an impressive 15.083 on the apparatus.

Andrade's medal wins were the first-ever by a Brazilian female gymnast, establishing her as a legend in the country. Her 11 total medals at the Olympics and World Championships make her the country's most decorated gymnast.

Andrade competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, but she finished just 11th in the all-around. She may have fared better, but she may not have been at full strength as she dealt with the after-effects of a 2015 torn ACL.

Andrade tore her ACL three times during her career (2015, 2017 and 2019) before breaking out in Tokyo.

She can further add to her legacy by leading Brazil to its first-ever women's gymnastics team medal at the 2024 Olympics or by once again challenging for all-around gold.

Like most gymnasts, Andrade is on the smaller side. She stands at just 4-11, and her compact frame helps her fly gracefully through the air.

How old is Rebeca Andrade?

Andrade is 25 years old. She has been a member of Brazil's national team since 2012 and became a senior gymnast in 2015.

Since then, Andrade has participated in the Olympics three times. She medaled twice in Tokyo and should have a chance to match or exceed that total given the form she is demonstrating in Paris.

Andrade was one of the top gymnasts during qualifying at the 2024 Olympics. She finished behind only Biles in all-around scoring and generated top-three marks on three of the four apparatuses.

Andrade was also key in helping Brazil's gymnastics team qualify in fourth place, just 0.362 points behind second-place Italy.

Andrade's vault at the 2024 Olympics will draw plenty of attention, as she may debut a triple-twisting Yurchenko during the team, all-around or vault finals.

Andrade submitted to have the skill — which hasn't been landed in women's competition — eponymously named. If she lands it, the maneuver would be known as the "Andrade."

That said, it isn't clear when, or if, Andrade may attempt the skill. She didn't showcase it in qualification, but she still scored an excellent 14.683 on the apparatus. That was 0.250 points ahead of third-place finisher Jade Carey and behind only Biles, who logged an other-worldly 15.300.

Even if she doesn't break out the triple-twisting Yurchenko — which involves performing a round-off onto the springboard and a back handspring to launch into the air before twisting three times — Andrade should medal on the vault. And if Biles suffers any surprise slip or minor deduction, Andrade could swoop in and earn her second consecutive Olympic gold in the event.
