Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) let loose some frustration at a private donor event last week toward President Joe Biden’s switch with Vice President Kamala Harris as Democratic nominee.

Former President Donald Trump’s running mate joined the campaign not long before Harris uprooted the presidential campaign’s status quo.

"All of us were hit with a little bit of a political sucker punch,” Vance said of Biden’s exit. “The bad news is that Kamala Harris does not have the same baggage as Joe Biden because whatever we might have to say, Kamala is a lot younger.”

Harris is 59, 22 years younger than Biden and 19 years younger than Trump. Unlike either of them, she hasn’t been extensively criticized for her mental errors, though she has caught flak for repeating the same phrases.

“And Kamala Harris is obviously not struggling in the same ways that Joe Biden did,” Vance said.

Vance’s comments come as Democrats have enjoyed a fundraising boom and received added support in polling. At one point, Trump led in every swing state and was threatening in states such as Virginia and New Mexico. Now, polls that have been released after Biden dropped out show Harris has cut into Trump’s lead in most key states.

Vance’s frustration emanates from what appeared to be a decisive victory for Trump against Biden that has now turned into a toss-up race against Harris.

Trump’s running mate has gotten picked apart by the Harris campaign as it tries to paint him as "weird" while he weathers odd allegations involving couches and dolphins.

The Trump-Vance team has rallied after the initial shock of changing opponents. Ads targeting Harris's record on the border went up in six swing states on Tuesday morning, painting her as "failed, weak, [and] dangerously liberal."
