Starbucks app down as 'absolute mayhem' leaves coffee lovers in 'complete shambles'

Much to the dismay of thousands of customers across America, Starbucks ' mobile app is down — meaning customers can't order ahead or access their points for rewards like free coffees.

According to DownDetector.com , the issue began around 9 a.m. EDT, with over a dozen customers reporting issues accessing the app. Approximately 80% struggled to get into it, while another 20% said they struggled to log in to their accounts in general. The baseline for reports about the app is zero — it's rare the app crashes, though it has been known to experience glitches.

Social media users and those with DownDetector accounts were quick to voice their frustrations with the issue, with one writing in a post on X that she was in "complete shambles" amid the issue.

"The Starbucks app being down this morning has me in complete shambles. Wtf," user @brianahh_ wrote. Others quickly followed suit. "Really bad day for Starbucks app to be down. Am I just going to rawdog this day after 3 hours of sleep?" wrote @ValueConfusion.

Another user, @craveephat, said she was "so irritated" the app wasn't working because she claimed she doesn't know how to order the coffee she normally gets in person. "Absolute mayhem when the Starbucks app is down," wrote @jbl7159.

@babyadriana__ chimed in, writing, "Starbucks app better count they days not working on the days I need it the most ???" She seemed to sum up what most people were thinking on Tuesday morning.

The outage map on DownDetector shows most of the issues occurring on the East Coast, Midwest and Texas in the country's major metropolitan hubs. New York City, Washington, D.C., Boston, Chicago and Dallas experienced the brunt of the outage — most of the West Coast was likely still waking up when the outage began.

According to Forbes , approximately 33 million people use the Starbucks app, though it's not clear how many of them are frequent users, meaning it's impossible to tell just how much of an impact the outage had.

One X user, @BoNaFidDe, compared the outage to the massive Microsoft outage a couple of weeks ago that left thousands stranded at airports as flights from several major airlines went down, as did banking and medical services and other systems. "Starbucks app not working for me is the same thing as Microsoft being down," the user wrote.
