Survivor Legend Kim Johnson Dies Aged 79: Family and Jeff Probst Pay Tribute

Survivor has lost another legend. The first person who was ever voted off the series, Sonja Christopher, recently passed away. And now fans are learning of the death of Kim Johnson , aged 79, who competed in Season 3 of the series. That edition was set in Africa. Ethan Zohn won that season, while Kim finished in second place. Both Survivor host Jeff Probst and Ethan shared their thoughts about losing Kim.

On July 29, Kerry Johnson Tichi, Kim’s daughter, stated People . “Our mom leaves a legacy of strength, resilience, kindness and generosity. She wore her rose colorized glasses right up until the end.” The statement concluded, “She was the coolest mom and grandmother in the world. We will miss her forever…”

And fellow Survivor: Africa star Ethan shared his feelings in an Instagram post, sharing a video of Kim’s best moments from the season. “Rest in peace Kim Johnson. It was a blessing to call you my friend and a privilege to experience the final tribal council with you,” Ethan wrote. “I will forever have that planters punch in your honor.” The Planter’s Punch is a reference to an Immunity Challenge for the final three. When asked what she was thinking about, Kim said that she was on a beach with a Planter’s Punch.

Jeff also shared his sentiments about the retired school teacher in a statement posted on social media . “Kim was a pioneer on Survivor and we are deeply sorry to learn of her passing. She still holds the record for the oldest woman to ever win an immunity challenge, earned her place in the final two, and even received votes to win the game,” the statement read. “I remember even then at just 56, how inspiring she was to other ‘older’ people because she showed that age was merely a number.” The statement concluded, “She definitely left her mark on the game and on all of us who were lucky enough to work on that season and tell her story.”
