Maggie Steffens, the celebrated three-time Olympic gold medalist, is back at the Olympics, vying for her fourth medal with the U.S. Women’s Water Polo Team. However, her journey in Paris, France, has been overshadowed by a personal tragedy.
Steffens' sister-in-law, Lulu Conner, who had traveled across the globe to support her at the games, tragically died while in Paris. A rep for the team confirmed the heartbreaking news, revealing to the Associated Press that Lulu suffered a "medical emergency" last week.
Lulu Conner was the younger sister of Maggie's husband, Bobby Conner.
"She was so excited for the Olympic Games. We're really close. She’s the light of the world. She just brings so much joy to everyone. She always brings people together," Maggie told the Associated Press , reflecting on her sister-in-law's vibrant spirit.

Despite the immense grief, Maggie has found some solace in continuing to compete. "It definitely helps to play," she shared. "I’m like so out of body in a way right now. And I just keep trying to remind myself what Lulu would want and how she would be, you know, how can I embody her spirit the best. And Lulu was somebody that she gave 150% to everything she did."
On Sunday, Flavor Flav, a devoted fan of the U.S. women's water polo team, shared a heartfelt video showing Maggie's husband presenting him with a special clock necklace that Lulu had made before her passing.
"imma be wearing a VERY SPECIAL second clock for the duration of the Olympics and beyond,,, MADE WITH LOVE BY ARTIST LULU CONNER," Flav wrote on Instagram.
