The Golden Bachelorette released an exciting new promo video, and lead Joan Vassos is cooking up a special season with the love and support of her family.
Before The Golden Bachelor spinoff series premieres Wednesday, September 18 on ABC, the 61-year-old school administrator from Rockland, Maryland welcomed members of Bachelor Nation into her home to meet her mother Mary, her mother-in-law Elaine, her son Nick and his fiancé Brooke, her daughter Ally, her grandson Boomer, and even more family members.

When Vassos’ daughter asked how she feels about kissing another guy on TV in the video at the top of this page, Vassos shocked the room by replying, “Oh, jeez. I’m gonna have to get used to that because you don’t want to be with somebody that you don’t like to kiss, so you have to try it out. I’m gonna probably kiss a fair amount of guys on camera. I’m sorry, guys!”
After sitting down at the dinner table, Vassos asked her family for some advice ahead of the season, and her grandson wisely suggested that she ask the guys to share their favorite dinosaurs. (Genius.) When Vassos’ daughter-in-law asked her to share her must-haves in a man, the Golden Gal explained, “I’m very picky about a man being a gentleman — somebody with a big heart, somebody who is generous, and also somebody who is humble.”

Those who watched Vassos on The Golden Bachelor will recall her husband John died in 2021 from pancreatic cancer after 32 years of marriage. Vassos’ official ABC bio revealed that she’s a mother of four and grandmother of two, and we saw her time with Gerry Turner cut short after she returned home early to care for her daughter, who was struggling post C-section.

Before the Golden Bachelorette promo concludes, Vassos toasts “to a great adventure” ahead and assures her family, “I’m not here to replace dad. I just want our family to be whole again.”
Though Vassos’ cast of senior men has yet to be announced, we’ve still got our fingers crossed in hopes that Kelsey Anderson’s dad Mark will return to screens for another shot at finding love.
